I really want to make my GTO faster and more reliable. That means:

1. Monster Clutch Package (850 hp rated) $1100

2. Maverick Man Coilover Kit $800

3. Hinson 1-piece Driveshaft (800hp, 160mph, 7,800rpm limit) $580

4. Driveshaft Shop 1400hp Axles $1000

5. LSA Heads $1300

6. Full LSA Intake w/ SC (ebay) $3000

7. LSA Part Kit $3000

8. Additional Funds for Issues $1000

9. BRM Handling package $1000

10. Bushing kit $300

11. Baer 6 pot Brake kit $2,100

12. Center Gauge Pod $500

Total: $15,680

Update: Get rid of 2-4 (-$2480) and add

Kinja'd!!!

G-Force 9" IRS Kit $6558

New Total: $19758

After that I still need a full paint job and trim replacement to make the car perfect. Not adding to the fact I need to fix the passenger window, but that’s negligible. So I can maybe get some of that money out of my other 2 cars.... Shit maybe I need a better job. Ah dreams.....

GTO burnout for your time

Convert to crank windows, that’s one problem solved. Are you willing to rattlecan it? rust oleum has some nice colors. Is this a 5.7 or a 6.0?

But weigh reduction bro, wait is this the spray paint or crank windows? If I were you I’d go with LS7 parts for a high revving NA engine instead of a LSA

Both sir, both. I love electric window where I can roll down both side from my seat and I’ll never rattle can a car I care about.

Well I don’t want high rev na, I want high HP SC. Hence the LSA heads and SC.

Take that $12k + proceeds from selling your GTO and put a nice down payment on an SS or CPO CTS-V. Unfortunately, your upgrades are more than your car’s worth :(

Kinja'd!!! CaptDale - is secretly British > Renescent

They are not more than my car it worth thank you. KBB shows for $17k, but as you know wanted cars with upgrades in them already sell for more. As do most stock GTOs. Plus this would be a car I would not want to get rid of.

Plus personally I very much dislike the 2 new gens of Camaro and the CTS-V is just kinda cool, but not my cup of tea...

Kinja'd!!! BorkBorkBjork > CaptDale - is secretly British
09/14/2016 at 12:10

Kinja'd!!!1

What kind of supercharger are you looking at? I have a roots-style positive displacement MP112 on my GTO. I love it, but there are some new centrifugal designs that are very interesting.

I used to be the biggest critic of centrifugal superchargers, since you had to deal with limited low-end power, but the new Procharger i-1 fixes all of that. By adding a CVT to the drive, you get full boost at any RPM and you can program your own boost levels. On top of that, you can use a large air-to-air intercooler that is way more efficient than the air-water one I have. Plus they are way easier to install, and you can use aftermarket intake manifolds (although I would call them and discuss it first, since the aftermarket manifolds may not have ideal flow for positive-pressure applications).

Kinja'd!!! CaptDale - is secretly British > BorkBorkBjork

I want to put LSA heads and factory LSA supercharger and intake assembly. I am a big proponent of keeping as much as I can with in the GM family.

I have no familiarity with the Maverick Man Coilover Kit, but I am always very hesitant on about 90% of sub-$1k coilover setups. They’re generally all the exact same poorly valved product coming out of a handful of Taiwanese shops that’re simply painted different colors.

Hell, I’m wary of most coilovers that are under $2k.

Let’s see I have some of those parts on the list. I have the monster twin with C7 flywheel. You’d like that. I have coilovers too. Mav man coil overs are a good choice, so are Pedders, BC, CX racing, and Megan which are made in the same place. Mav is a good guy and one man operation for his carbon fiber products. I am wanting a DSS two piece drive shaft no 1 piece for me. Why not get 2QWK4U/The Banned One’s axles? It is what a lot of people are using now, but they are pricey. The LSA top end is good for making power, but you will need a cowl hood.

My concerns:

1. No replacement of all bushings?

Kinja'd!!!

2. No Harrop differential cover?

Kinja'd!!!

3. All that power and no CTS-V 6 piston front 4 piston rear brakes.

Kinja'd!!!

All GTOs need new paint jobs... Holden’s paint is meh at best.

My uncle let me drive his Chevelle once. It’s got a 402 cubic inch small block, probably makes 550HP. The trans has a manual valve body with the shifter still on the column, he’s welded the carrier together in the rear (4.10's), it’s got drum brakes all the way around. It’s basically a redneck deathtrap. A really, really, really fast deathtrap.

Kinja'd!!!0

That’s gonna be a beast. Engine is gonna come last for me. I’m basically framing it around tuning. I’m going to do my exhaust and engine all at once and trailer it to SNL Performance to get it tuned.

I figured I’d handle all the bushings and suspension stuff first. I’ve got wheels and brakes done. Need to decide on some tires and then pay off the credit card to start ordering suspension goodies. The hard parts wi

Stainless Works longtubes headers/CAT delete with custom Y-pipe for QTP electric cutouts. I’ll probably do full 3" exhaust and fit the largest/quietest mufflers I can on it to avoid setting of my GF’s car alarm at 5am every morning. - Alot...I know the fabricator I’m going to use but this mod also gets into engine stuff which is a rabbit hole unto itself.

Engine - I’m not an LS guy. I’ve been wrecking Mustangs since I got my license so until now, I haven’t really done much research. The goal is every day reliability and driveability. I’m not looking to dominate the strip. I’m no going to get into weight reduction to get this pig to a 11 second car. The car is comfortable and I think of it as more of a GT car than a muscle car.

I’m thinking LS6 heads and maybe a valve kit. If I get some cherry used ones I may just throw some new springs in it and call it good. LS6 intake manifold with OTR tube. I may also upgrade to the Mishimoto radiator a this time. I need to do more research on a good cam for this build. Perhaps just stick with the LS6 theme and do stock LS6 camshafts.

AGM battery relocated to the trunk/ ECM relocated to the kickpanel in cabin. Coolant reservoir relocated to passenger side. I’d like to clean up the engine pay so I’m going to see about relocating the coilpacks to the firewall and possibly deleting the PCV system or hiding it better. I’ll also change the rest of the fluid reservoirs for a more clean look.

With all that extra space I’ll probably be tempted to shove a Procharger in there. I probably won’t. But it would be cool.

Yeah, the suspension and safety parts will come first. The car has a hot cam and tune at the moment that will suffice till I can add power.

What beast are you creating. Sounds like a great set up. You’ll find LS is best LS lol. Its funny you’re going LS6 off a which LS?

I definitely want to try to stick with as much factory GM parts as I can engine wise, but I want what GM would have made a LS2 S/C. So LSA top end. should be neat.

For 11k I better be able to see the stars reflect in my car at night. Are you doing the SAP rear? I don’t really like it. I wouldn’t mind the side mouldings and front facia, but with out the indented grill inserts. I also want the CV8Z wheels.

Kinja'd!!!0

LS1 so the LS6 parts are bolt on, which is attractive to me. Mine is an ‘04 GTO M6 in Yellow Jacket.

Yeah, I’m trying to apply the Lotus ethos of, “Simplify, then add lightness,” to the build. It has to be simple, intuitive, and make as much or more sense than before. Mechanically speaking. Mine is more of a, “Simplify, then add loudness,” though.

And yeah, I haven’t though of adding the LSA top end. That’s cool idea. Are you gonna do forged rods or anything or would it not make enough boost to need that?

Kinja'd!!! AfromanGTO > CaptDale - is secretly British
09/14/2016 at 18:39

Kinja'd!!!1

Exactly!

No sap rear. I hate the sap grilles, so none of those either. Just the sap front fascia. I want to plastiweld it, so it is better attached to the bumper. I really want a set of HSV GTO side skirts, but I like the SAP side skirts too. I have my stock 18s, and Camaro 19s for my GTO. I have yet to put the 19s on. I am tempted to put a set of 2014-2015 SS sedan wheels on it too, but then I’d have 3 sets of rims. lol
